137. Experimenting with Hypnosis

I’ve never been the type that has been able to be hypnotized. That being said I’m sick of my brain feeling blocked and I have a friend currently delving into hypnosis so they have whipped up some audio training to try and help me out.

The idea we are going for is to instill a trigger word that will put me into and/or keep me in submissive mental space. The chosen word is one that already plays upon some emotional triggers.

I’m hoping this might help, but it’s tough to tell if there are actually things happening or if it is mostly wishful thinking and a healthy dose of placebo effect.

In any case, it feels better trying to do something about my mental state than not doing anything.

  1. Very interesting, furcissy! I attended hypnosis therapy years ago to try to instill a greater love for working out. My Ph.D. program at the time made it mandatory to attend some/any type of therapy as part of the program to have a better understanding of how clients feel. As hypnosis was a great interest of mine at the time, I decided to choose that type and it was a very rewarding experience. There were many times that I came away sure that I had not been hypnotized, but later would have random thoughts encouraging myself to work out. Ever since I have become a bit of a fitness buff. Placebo effect? Maybe, maybe not. But I think it is definitely a worthwhile endevour!

    1. Thank you, Nora. Most of what I am working with is attempting extreme relaxation in a dark room and working with an audio.

After a few times I noticed that if I focused on the trigger word I could feel the “wall” in my brain starting to weaken. When I get blocked from mental space it actually feels like there is a barrier in my brain that I cannot get through.

I have noticed since then that I have an increased internal response to the word… it has always affected me but now it feels like it is doing just a little bit more.

It is Interesting to hear about the workouts in your previous experiences.

      Take care.

  2. Glad to see you’re trying Hypnosis! Self-hypnosis can be difficult to get into, even as a Hypnotherapist I sometimes struggle. But please stick with it, the benefits are amazing. We’ve had great success stories with clients! Wishing you the very best with your journey XXX

    1. Thank you. I have noticed some effects but if I don’t keep up with a regular regimen it fades after a few days. I keep wondering if it is the placebo effect, but I’m not really arguing with how it makes me feel. I do think that setting aside time each day to relax probably helps as well.

      Take care.

      1. That’s good to hear! Keep at it. I find with self hypnosis it takes longer for the effects to appear. But be patient. You’re definitely on the right track! If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime. Sending you very best wishes.
